Day 1 - Bus ride to Landmannalaugar and climbing Blahnukur

Aug 26th 2023  We woke up early and rushed to make to the bus stop. The bus stop was a 20 mins walk. We both had a day backpack and a duffel bag with all the stuff we needed for the trek. I had packed some winter clothes, waterproof clothing, socks, mittens, hat and also some trail mix. It was painful to walk with the duffle bag, but that was what the tour specified. They did not want any hard luggage but recommended a waterproof duffle bag. At the bus stop, we saw other trekkers who would be part of our group. Each group has 16 members and a tour guide. The bus for the tent group came first. I chatted with the very friendly tour guide, Arvydas- who was not Icelandic. I think he was Lithuanian. But he could speak Icelandic pretty well. Neel was picked up and we were separated :-( His bus left and few minutes later, the bus for the hut group came. I got in and was so excited that the trip had finally started !

Day 0 - Arrival in Reykjavik

Aug 25th, 2023  Ever since we visited Iceland in 2019 and went to Landmannalaugar, I have been wanting to do the 4 day  Laugevegur trek, which is supposed to be one of the world's most beautiful treks. I was doubting my ability to complete the trek. This is the highlands of Iceland and once you start, there is no turning back, since the area is remote and there are no hospitals, restaurants or anything that is remotely town like ! I booked the trek through Arctic Adventures. You can book a hut or a tent experience. Huts are basic accommodation buildings with a series of beds and bunk beds, dorm style. The toilet is outside the hut. I booked a hut experience. Neel said he wanted to join, but by then all the hut options were taken and we booked a tent option for him. I was a little worried now that this was near the end of Icelandic summers and thought he may be cold in the tent, but he wasn't too bothered by it.  I landed in Reykjavik early morning (6 am) on Aug 25th, 2023...
